Steyr Mannlicher Luxus S is a bolt action rifle with six locking lugs that lock up with the rear end of the receiver – a similar design can also be found on Sauer 90 and Mauser 77 rifles. It features a steel receiver that is drilled and tapped for scope mounts. The bolt throw comes at a 60 ° angle, allowing for low-scope mounting. By pulling it to the rear and pressing the trigger simultaneously, the bolt can be easily removed from the receiver.

There is a two-position safety positioned on the action tang which blocks the firing pin and locks the bolt handle. Additionally, the rifle comes with a cocking indicator at the rear end of the bolt, which shows when the rifle is cocked and ready to fire. The 9 mm wide adjustable trigger is smooth to operate and offers a hair-trigger setting for even lighter pull weight.

Straight-line, box detachable magazine which can hold three rounds is held in by two separately attached retaining clips and is loaded through the top. The rifle comes with preinstalled titled rear sight with lateral adjustment and a square blade front sight which is adjustable for elevation.
