Description
The Pedersoli 12-gauge SxS Classic with Hammers is an exceptionally well-made, Italian reproduction muzzleloader. Prized for its period-accurate looks and balance, it features chrome-lined barrels and deep case-hardened, laser-engraved locks. It excels in both traditional hunting and sporting clays, providing an immersive and elegant black powder shooting experience.Â

Key Features & Handling
- Barrels: Features 12-gauge cylinder and modified chokes (often firing the right barrel with the front trigger, and the left with the rear). Chrome-lined bores make it highly resistant to the corrosive nature of black powder.
- Stock & Aesthetics: Features oil-finished American walnut with deep checkering and traditional color-case-hardened metalwork.
- Handling: Weighing around 3.2 kg (about 7 lbs), its balance point sits comfortably near the supporting hand.
Performance & User Consensus
- Patterning: Excellent patterns are easily achieved with hard felt wads (or pre-lubricated fiber wads) combined with a 2F or 1.5F black powder load.Â
- The Experience: Reviewers praise the shotgun's "square load" (equal volumes of powder and shot) for offering a satisfying, traditional hunt or day on the trap range.
Pedersoli SxS black powder barrels are brown instead of blued primarily for historical accuracy and corrosion resistance. Browning is a controlled rusting process that converts steel to stable iron oxide. Pedersoli "Deluxe" versions use a brown finish to accurately replicate authentic 18th- and 19th-century hunting arms. Specific reasons for this finish include:
- Historical Accuracy: Before the industrial era, brown finishes were the standard for quality English and European fowling pieces and muskets. Replicating this "rust brown" finish maintains the traditional aesthetic of the muzzleloading era.
- No Solder Damage: Side-by-side barrels are joined using soft solder. The high temperatures required for modern, chemical hot-bluing can melt this solder. Consequently, Pedersoli employs rust-browning (or rust-bluing) on these models, as it does not require a hot bath and protects the solder joints.Â
- Superior Durability: Controlled browning creates a protective, non-reflective oxide layer. In wet or humid environments, it provides better resistance against rust and pitting than traditional cold-blue applications
