Description
This particular rifle was made by Josef Kugler of Innsbruck, Austria sometime between 1908-1920, and is in Very Good Condition. Schuetzen rifles are known for elaborate aesthetics, heavy ergonomic builds, and extreme accuracy.

Key characteristics that define the Schuetzen style:
Â
- Ergonomics: They feature deeply curved hooked buttplates, raised cheekpieces, and a palm rest mounted under the forearm to help shooters balance the heavy 12 to 15-pound weight while standing.
- Triggers: They utilize adjustable "set triggers." The shooter pulls a rear trigger to set the mechanism, allowing the front trigger to break with just a few ounces of pressure for maximum accuracy.
- Calibers: Popular traditional chamberings include the .32-40 Winchester and 8.15x46R
- Aesthetics: The stocks and metalwork are frequently adorned with highly detailed engraving and relief-cut carvings.Â
- Artistry: Beyond their function, many Schuetzen rifles are famous for their collectible beauty, featuring intricate relief-cut engravings, case-hardened metalwork, and fine woodwork.
Historically, these rifles were the "race cars" of their day, built as bespoke target machines rather than hunting arms. They were the foundation of Schuetzen-style competitions and the late-19th-century equivalent of modern free-rifle matches.
